Mark Houston has done the unthinkable.
The United States Marine has fallen in love with his best friend’s fiancée. Now he has to tell Libby Clifton that Jon was killed in action. When Mark accompanies his friend’s body home to the quiet farming community of Spencer, Wisconsin, he discovers that all was not well between Libby and Jon. He dares to hope there might still be room in her heart for him—until she confides in him that he’s the only friend she has—the very last thing a man in love wants to hear.

She’s trying to move on.
After the very public funeral of her war hero fiancée, Libby Clifford trades the sedate country life for nursing school in big city Chicago. Little does she realize that kilos of opium lay six-feet underground with the man she’s just buried. The cold-blooded cartel boss has proven he will go to extreme lengths to get his drugs back. Mark Houston, now working for Alex Stewart and his covert surveillance team, is determined to protect Libby. Three paths are on a collision course of murder, deceit, and betrayal.

Opium isn’t the only thing that’s buried....

What a fun day at Layton Freedom Days!
My very first customer was a Korean War Vet named Marvin.
He was ex-Army and still full of mischief.
I could almost see the young man he used to be.
Marvin was the start to a very fun day.

5 Stars for Mark!

Breathtakingly beautiful Military Romantic Suspense,
May 10, 2014
By Kristin

This review is from: Mark (In the Company of Snipers) (Kindle Edition)

I LOVED it! This is the first book I've ready by Irish Winters, and it will definitely *not* by my last. I've already purchased the other two (that are presently available) and eagerly await her coming books.

MARK (IN THE COMPANY OF SNIPERS) by Irish Winters has it all: genuine romance, a broad spectrum of emotion, action, suspense, 3D characters, evil villains (illustrating the magnificence of the hero/es), believable romance. **SIGH**

Mark Houston (our hero) has loved Libby Clifton from the very beginning-- but (as we know in the book description) she's engaged to his best friend Jon. She's off limits, but that doesn't keep his battered heart from loving her. When Jon loses his life in service of his country, Libby is understandably devastated. Mark has the miserable job of carrying the news to Libby. Her heart-wrenching pain is *his* pain. I LOVED how Mark realized it was far too early for him to declare himself to Libby, and in so many ways, far, far too late.

This fiercely romantic story brings together two people who couldn't be more perfect for each other. Together, they're whole, blessedly happy. Because it's a romance, it's a given [from page 1] that Libby and Mark will end up together....and it was so very rewarding a read that Libby realizes she's so much happier, more cherished, more invested with Mark than she ever could have been with Jon. The whole lost fiance and current romance-- this triangle between two men (best friends) who love the same woman, one lost forever and one her happily-ever-after -- is so very well done.

Kudos to the author!

Review of Mark (In the Company of Snipers #2) by Irish Winters
5 out of 5 Stars
Irish Winters has out done her first book, Alex! I don’t know how she makes you care so much for her characters, but she simply pulls every emotion from you and has you needing to finish the book because you can’t leave the characters stuck in limbo. There is a place where Mark and Libby, the two main characters in this book, are standing on the porch and he’s leaving to go back to Afghanistan and in reality it’s time for dinner…but you just have to let your family starve for a few more minutes because you just don’t care to eat. You NEEEEDDD to know what they say, you can’t just leave them standing there in a state of paralysis while you eat. It’s THAT kind of book!

Mark is just your good hearted, teddy bear, needs to be loved because he had an A-hole for a dad kinda guy who takes his job in the Marine Corp seriously and his place on the TEAM is no different. Libby is a small town Wisconsin girl who fell in love with another Marine and always dreamed of having the perfect life. 2.4 kids, her working in the local hospital as a nurse, a small farm, and happy ever after. But all that changes when Mark brings her the news that her Marine isn’t coming home.

From there Mrs. Winters takes you on an amazing adventure involving the FBI, TEAM’s covert ops, drug smuggling, shoot outs, love like you’ve never seen it unfold, and we can’t forget Alex and Kelsey from the first book! We also get to see Murphy, Harley, Ember, Mother, Zack, and the whole crew to include Smoke and Whisper the two cutest German Shepherds on the planet!! And no spoilers, but I think love is blooming for one of our other hunky men at the end!!! I can’t wait!!!

So I would definitely recommend starting with Alex because you wouldn’t want to miss his and Kelsey’s story (and how TEAM got started) and then jumping into Mark as quickly as you can!!

MARK
In the Company of Snipers
Book 2

Mark Houston has done the unthinkable. The United States Marine has fallen in love with his best friend’s fiancée. Now he has to tell Libby Clifton that Jon was killed in action. He dares to hope there might still be room in her heart for him—until she confides in him that he’s the only friend she has—the very last thing a man wants to hear. Or be.

She’s trying to move on. After the very public funeral of her war hero fiancée, Libby trades the sedate country life for nursing school in big city Chicago. Little does she realize that kilos of opium lay six-feet underground with the man she’s just buried. The cold-blooded cartel boss wants his drugs back. Mark Houston is determined to protect Libby. The idea for MARK . . . .

MARK
Book 2
In the Company of Snipers Series

I have to give credit where credit is due.
This pretty lady, Carrie Underwood, sang a song in 2008 called "Just a Dream."
It's the heartrending lament of an engaged woman left behind by war.
She's supposed to be getting married, not burying the man she loves.
The image that crystalized in my head when I heard the lyrics was the face of the young man charged with the responsibility of presenting the awful news---and then the flag.
It was MARK, all military and proper---trying to hide his own broken heart---and his love.
His story needed to be told.

It will come to life in Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords February 2014.
Enjoy . . .

Watch for it!
February 2014
Greatly anticipated release for Book 2

MARK

USMC Sergeant Mark Houston has done the unthinkable. He's fallen in love with his buddy's fiancee, Libby Clifton. If that's not bad enough Jon Wells is killed in action in Afghanistan, shot out of the sky by a Taliban rocket propelled grenade.

Mark must face Libby again, this time to break her heart as USMC Notification Officer.

Not only has he lost his best friend, but now he stands to lose his friendship with Libby as well.

Or does he?
